Massage therapists address the various needs of different individuals. Some seek their services simply to reduce stress and relax while others avail of their services to treat pain or even to rehabilitate injuries. Because of the varying needs of their clients, they need to be able to determine what kind of therapy each one needs, discuss recommendations, and perform them. Such skills are typically taught in any massage therapy class.
Typically, individuals who have received some sort of formal massage therapist training have their own specialties. Among the most common ones are reflexology, deep-tissue massage, Swedish massage, sports massage, acupressure, and neuromuscular therapy. Most have more than one specialization and are able to make recommendations for other therapists whenever a client requires therapy outside of their specialty.
The success of any therapist or massage therapy business lies in repeat customers and developing a loyal customer base does not only involve providing effective therapy to each of their clients but also in developing a rapport with them as well as encouraging them to make regular visits.
