FBI Recommends the Proper Use of Bait Money for All Credit Union Branches

Lake Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) June 14, 2006

Speaking at last week’s Credit Union InfoSecurity Conference held at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas, FBI Special Agents Lawrence Wenko and Richard Beasley told credit union attendees and security vendors that the use of bait money is an effective – and virtually no cost – tool in helping them capture robbery suspects. Speaking from dozens of years of experience each, the special agents from the Las Vegas field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation told nearly 100 attendees and vendors that when an offender begins to spend the bait money, it provides a paper trail for law enforcement officers to track down the subject.

Bait money – U.S. currency with recorded serial numbers – should be located at each teller position and it is important to ensure that bait money is verified on a regular basis. The agents noted that when given out properly by credit union employees during a robbery, bait money cannot be detected by robbers and can greatly assist law enforcement in apprehending offenders. The special agents also covered many other useful robbery topics such as the use of high-tech GPS devices for tracking robbers. They kept their presentation lively and extremely entertaining at the same time.

Other top notch industry and credit union speakers at the successful conference covered additional timely security topics such as: data encryption; card fraud; remote vendor access; continuous data protection, disaster recovery issues; vulnerability management; network monitoring; strong authentication; ID theft; Internet threats; Web application security; decrypting security reports; and many other relevant security topics.

About the Credit Union InfoSecurity Conference

In its fifth year, the Credit Union InfoSecurity Conference is the original and premier conference dedicated solely to credit union security. It brings together industry leaders in their respective security fields to provide practical advice on securing credit unions. The two and one half day conference provides a tremendous opportunity for credit union CEOs, Directors, IT staff and Audit/Compliance personnel to network with their credit union peers and visit Security Vendor Receptions featuring nearly twenty world class security firms.
